Fast craft, Manannan, not the boat we generally use to go over to the Isle of Man. We once went on its smaller predecessor, Seacat Isle of Man nick-named the "vomit comet"; the crossing was a bit rough, so it lived up to its nick-name. I wasn't sick, but it was touch and go.
Manannan is a lot larger and was bought from the US military. I've been on it once. All shipping had been getting cancelled on the Irish Sea due to winter storms and the island was needing freight deliveries. So, on the first day of sailing our usual boat, Ben-my-Chree, was used purely for freight traffic and we were re-scheduled onto this. Given my previous experience I wasn't that keen, but the crossing was actually fairly smooth and uneventful, plus quicker. Which was just as well as we'd already lost a day of our holiday and it took to early afternoon before shipping started moving again in the Irish Sea.
